Are parents responsible for the actions of their teenagers? The United States House of Representatives passed a bill to criminalize teenage “sexting”. However, it’s not just the teenagers being held accountable, it’s also the parents.
The idea of parents not being responsible for making sure their minor children make smart choices is commonplace. Children throwing tantrums in stores are handed smartphones to play with instead of disciplined and teenagers free reign to take advantage of the pop culture idea that kids will inevitably be kids. But, kids shouldn’t be sexualized and that’s exactly what this same Hollywood culture installs into the younger generations as being normal and cool. This is contrasted with the fact a parent might very well have no idea their child is “sexting” without invading their privacy and runs contrary to the idea teenagers should be responsible and treated like young adults.
There is a mandatory sentence parents will be slapped with if the government finds out your teenage is “sexting”, all on the next page:
No, not today !to many influences
Literally impossible. Might as well ban smartphones.
Gotta get rid of all this government
And what of the kids caught actually having sex? Don’t get me wrong, there needs to be a line but 16 or 17 year old kids doing sexual things happens. That’s not to say it should be encouraged or allowed but after a certain age teenagers cannot realistically be monitored every minute of every day. This whole, “you’re a bad parent if your kid screws up” mentality is garbage. I’ve known people who had excellent parents that screwed up. I’ve known excellent people who have had garbage parents. The idea that parents must now quit work and all other activities so they can personally monitor every minute of their teens life is silly. It shouldn’t be tolerated or accepted and the teen should be punished if caught but jail time over a kid sneaking off to make a bad decision or else jail time will not work. What would more likely happen is the parent tells the kid no on something and the kid threatens to sext and get the parent in trouble if the parent doesn’t cave. If the government really wanted to reign in today’s kids, maybe the government should decriminalize spanking the kid in public so that by the time the kid is a teen the parent can establish guidelines that the kid will follow.

So who goes to prison if a politician’s kid is caught sexting? Yep, that’s what I thought: nobody. It’s a shame we can’t all exempt ourselves from these stupid laws
