A $.10 fee is now being added to each gallon of gas, before sales tax, in California. It is a tax, but that isn’t what they are calling it. Instead, the fee is described as an amount paid by gas retailers when distributors load tanker trucks.
So California drivers are being forced to pay a tax on a tax. How soon will other states follow?
“The global warming fee, which is variable and could soar in the future, added about a dime this week,” Dan McSwain of UT San Diego said. “Then the state adds 2.25% of the full retail price – including those other fees and taxes – while city and county sales taxes add more (0.5% in most of San Diego County).”
Many drivers haven’t noticed the increase yet due to the plummeting gas prices, but they will eventually because the $0.10 per gallon fee is not a set price – it’s determined by California’s “cap-and-trade” market in which various industries trade their permits covering specific amounts of emissions, the total of which is capped by the state.
In other words, the “global warming” fee can go up.
“In August, California’s legislative analyst estimated that, by 2020, retail prices were likely to rise between 13 cents and 20 cents a gallon because of cap-and-trade,” McSwain added. “But the analyst, Mac Taylor, warned that increases could exceed 50 cents in some cases.”
“And an oil-industry group warned the costs could spike to 76 cents, based on state figures.”
This is intentional; the “cap-and-trade” system was designed to raise gas prices and energy costs using artificial scarcity created through the hoax of man-made “global warming.”
“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” President Obamatold reporters in 2008. “Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money.”
“They will pass that money on to consumers.”

Remember that California is leading the country in electric car adoption, with many models for us to choose from. Many states want to keep you addicted to oil based modes of transport, and yes, they will keep finding ways to make you pay more for it. Get a clue and force the car makers to supply you with options! Check this out if you think they are golf carts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG6veF_34QE
The US Government does not pay for drilling the oil well. They don’t pay for refining the oil. They don’t deliver the gasoline to a gas station. They contribute nothing. Through taxes, they receive more money than the Oil companies, or the service stations. The oil companies, like all business, exist and sell a product, to make a profit. Peter wants to blame the oil company… Hey Pete, Why don’t you invest YOUR money, in drilling oil wells ( not all the holes drilled produce oil ) Then build a refinery, and a service station, and then give the gasoline away free because making a profit is wrong.
Even the electric car have vinyl, rubber, oil, and grease in them. Also electricity comes from natural gas/coal in most power plants. Just because you own an electric car does not mean you do not pollute the environment. If everyone use electric cars we would have to have alot more power plants, booster stations, and high voltage high line wire. If you are having rolling blackouts now in the Summer with A/C use how much more will you have rolling blackouts if everyone drove a electric car?
welcome to the socialism that all Californians stand for, tax the tax then tax the taxpayer more taxes to pay for promoting the tax. You all get what you scream, lobby and beg for! accept it because you fought for it!!! I never want to hear one bit of whining coming from california because they are the front line in stripping our freedom from us. Deal with it.
why the hell would anyone stay in California?
Leave it to California. Everyone should leave there.
And how much does it cost from the effects of global warming – the flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, and so on? And yes – there are so many things in your day to day ordinary lives that you wouldn’t do without that originated from California. If you knew your history you’d know this.
Government getting more spending money, again. Geez.
Problem is if they charge this .10 for a fee none of this money will be paid for global warming and they know this.
Why anyone would live in CA is beyond me.
