Michael Korte and wife Laura Whitney from Glendora, CA face $500 in fines and even criminal action if they don’t turn their brown lawn green again, which died because they were trying to comply with California water regulations.
Don’t you just love the government’s ability to coordinate their activities?
On Tuesday — when the couple received the letter — state regulators authorized fines up to $500 for overwatering lawns.‘Despite the water conservation efforts, we wish to remind you that limited watering is still required to keep landscaping looking healthy and green,’ the letter stated.
It included pictures of the dead lawn with a red line through it, a weedy line similarly crossed out, and finally an uncrossed green lawn with a sprinkler.
‘It is telling me I’d better get my lawn green and I have 60 days to do it,’ Laura said.Ironically, on the same day the couple received the letter the State Water Resources Control Board gave local agencies power to fine for overwatering lawns to help reduce water consumption as the state is in the third year of record low rainfall.
Should the couple wish to improve their lawn they’ll likely have to water it every day.
‘It seems like you’ll be fined if you overwater but we will be fined no matter what,’ Laura said.
I would agree Take up the lawn, put in green rocks. Plant cactus that has big thorns. Problem fixed.
B.S.
Yeah! You better get this lawn fixed or else! Or else what you’ll take away the water to water it? How stupid! You can’t fix stupid!
This is BS, the state of Ca. does not fine people for brown lawns, now they may have received a letter from homeowners association about it being brown but that’s a different ball game
There are companies that will paint your lawn green, but even so how can the City make a water restriction and then give out citations because people are FOLOWING the restriction placed on them by the city. Everyone knows that Cal is out of water.
I think that I would put in Astroturf that would solve their problem then it would all be green . Save money from lawn care. No water no grass cutting. Fence it good and don’t have to worry about dogs and cats. Would be cheeper than a $ 500.00 Dollars a day fine.
It’s the same ballgame — members of the HOA have to comply with the water regulations also.
Get some Green Pain and paint it.
I would just go out and p**s on my lawn every chance I got
remove the grass and put in rock
