During the 90’s, my small business was growing but I was unable to find good workers to fill the increasing need. I placed ads, listed with employment services and spent a lot of time interviewing. Luckily, I had several highly productive long term well-paid, employees. Though I was willing to train the applicants, most were unskilled and indicated that I couldn’t possibly compete with their income thru benefits that the government was providing them, especially healthcare, which they were unwilling to give up.. They mostly indicated that they were just there because they were required to apply by various agencies. I guess what I am trying to point out is that our system needs restructuring because the issues we face go deeper than most people realize. It is unfair to lay the blame solely on any one group.
