This is a very real possibility that has been written about, and warned about for years, by both government and independant researchers, and energy experts. Corporate profits have kept the US power grid on the verge of collapse almost since it’s inception. The corporations will not spend the money to expand or fortify the power grid, beyond what is absolutely necessary to keep the profits rolling in. As the cost of alternative energy comes down, the ever increasing cost of government regulation goes up, keeping most of the country dependant on the US power grid.
