This rat trap anyone can build. You make it once and it catches many rats.
A bucket, some peanut butter, a pipe and some water. Yup, that’s pretty simple.
One improvement suggested by someone using this trap is to add antifreeze to the water, which instantly kills the rats.
No bucket big enough….
Take the same type of bucket, fill 3/4 with water, float birdseed across the top. Mice think they can jump onto it but fall into the water

Using antifreeze is against it’s use on label. Therefore it is illegal. And a Federal law. Also irresponsible if an off target gets to it that animal or human is dead. Stick to the basics.
