During a speech on Thursday regarding his executive order to boost nationwide vaccination rates for COVID-19, Joe Biden made a chilling remark that seemed to indicate he would override the authority of any governor who opposes his mandates – threatening to obliterate the separation of powers between states and the federal government. Wasn’t Trump supposed to be the dictator here?
“If they’ll not help, if these governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my powers as president to get them out of the way,” Biden said.
The comment harkens back to the phrase, “Get out of the way,” that Biden demanded of Florida Gov. DeSantis last month, suggesting the Republican governor get “out of the way” of the efforts to slow the delta variant surge. DeSantis fired back the next day. “I’m standing in your way, and I’m standing in your way for the people of Florida.”
Now it seems Biden is done asking nicely, appearing to openly shift to full tyrant mode.
But how would Biden actually set about removing the authority of state governors? The answer might be the Fourteenth Amendment.
