4. The Whiskey Ring Controversy
In the late 1870s, former Civil War general Ulysses S. Grant was seen as being connected to a complex scheme to divert liquor tax revenues. The scandal was finally exposed by a group of special undercover government agents, resulting in 110 convictions. Even though Grant wasn’t shown to be directly connected to the “Whiskey Ring,” his private secretary, General Orville E. Babcock was. In the eyes of the public, Grant was tainted by association and his support dwindled along with support for the Reconstruction.
Sadly, tax swindles by corrupt public officials are nothing new
The White House doesn’t get any cleaner next!
Remember who is funding your welfare check?
Remember when all the presidents before didn’t care about the American people.
