9. NSA Surveillance Scandal
In May of 2013 IT Specialist Edward Snowden left behind his job at the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) forever. Snowden blew the whistle on the vast and secret surveillance program by the NSA to spy on American citizens on domestic soil. Among the programs Snowden revealed was PRISM, which collected and stored a vast amount of data from digital communications inside the United States. Snowden’s revelations also exposed other programs involving digital surveillance on allies such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and went some way to showing that President Barack Obama’s administration had vastly overreached its authority in its warrantless, constant, and widespread mass surveillance activities.
Unlike Andrew Johnson, who was impeached partially to avoid allowing a precedent of overreach by the administrative branch, Obama’s government has continued digitally monitoring its citizens without any real repercussions. Edward Snowden remains in Russia after that country granted the whistleblower asylum.
For our next presidential scandal we return to the past to look at an ultimate form of corruption buying a United States presidency!
Remember who is funding your welfare check?
Remember when all the presidents before didn’t care about the American people.
