TSA probes travelers even harder

New warrantless screening procedures by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) aim to be more invasive than ever. Will Americans stand for this level of travel restrictions? Naturally they will. Like the NSA, the TSA seeks to obliterate freedoms all Americans valued a little more than a decade ago under the guise of offering ‘security’ or ‘safety’.

The TSA argument goes like this: before going anywhere near an airplane (or lots of other forms of transportation), you must divulge:

  • personal details such as your travel history
  • vehicle registrations
  • employment information
  • frequent flier info
  • physical characteristics
  • property ownership records
  • and tax ID numbers

Otherwise, you may not be allowed to travel. Once the TSA has your information, if they decide they don’t like something about, for example, the vehicle you own, or your tax history, or some other “identifier” linked to DHS databases, you may not be allowed to travel. This is all necessary because if the TSA doesn’t know this information before you go near a vehicle, you are probably a terrorist. Or you might be. Or not. But they will treat you as if you ARE a terrorist if you fail to enthusiastically open up your private life to virtually untrained, poorly managed and essentially untrustworthy strangers. If you object, you are probably a terrorist and a threat to the safety of those around you.

“I think the best way to look at it is as a pre-crime assessment every time you fly,” said Edward Hasbrouck to the New York Times. Hasbrouck is a consultant to the Identity Project, one of the groups that oppose the prescreening initiatives. “The default will be the highest, most intrusive level of search, and anything less will be conditioned on providing some additional information in some fashion.”

It is astonishing that the public has been hoodwinked into accepting invasive body-scans, customs interrogations and random airport groping, but this new, unwarranted and aggressive pre-screening is the logical consequence of the public’s passive reaction to the sudden, malignant growth of the TSA, justified by a fear-mongering administration.
