During an exchange with ICE Executive Associate Director Matthew Albence before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono received a lesson on why someone who enters our country illegally has broken the law. One would think that a lawmaker would understand what the word illegal means. You have to see the video to believe it.
“Would you send your child to [the Family Residential Center]?” Hirono asked.
“Again, I think we’re missing the point. These individuals are there because they have broken a law. There has to be a process,” Albence responded, appearing to lose some patience.
Hirono jumped in with an apparent intention to derail where the answer was taking the exchange: “They have broken a law only as deemed so by the president,” she said. The statement seemed to indicate that that she believes President Trump made the law criminalizing illegal immigration.
