Rand Paul: Why Can’t Obama End NSA Snooping If He Actually Wants To

Senator Rand Paul (R- Kentucky) makes a great point in this video interview: If President Obama really is serious about ending NSA spying on Americans, why doesn’t he simply do so unilaterally?

The President has been willing, even eager to “use his pen and his phone” to work around and even countermand the dictates of Congress to achieve his own pet goals. Why not use some of the executive actions he seems so fond of in this case and simply curtail the NSA’s controversial, unwarranted domestic spying practices?

Of course, part of the answer is that Obama actually has no desire to limit his NSA. The other part is that, if done through the legislative process, there’s a good chance to add loopholes and sneaky details that do actually fit his agenda.
