President Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize by Norwegian Lawmakers

President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by two Norwegian lawmakers following the Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Christian Tybring-Gjedde and Per-Willy Amundsen, two members of Norway’s governing Progress Party, made the nomination.

Trump ‘had taken a huge and important step in the direction of the disarmament, peace and reconciliation between North and South Korea,’ the lawmakers told the Norwegian news agency NTB.

“What’s going on now is historic,” Amundsen told NRK. “A process is underway to ensure world peace in the future. It’s a fragile process, but we must of course do what we can to help this process bring good results.”

The nomination makes Trump eligible for next year because the deadline for this year’s prize passed in January.

Eighteen House Republicans have also nominated Donald Trump for the 2019 Nobel peace prize.

The GOP lawmakers say that Trump should “receive the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his work to end the Korean War, denuclearize the Korean peninsula and bring peace to the region”.
