1) The Trump administration is launching a global effort to decriminalize homosexuality
This undoubtedly stunned just about everyone. There are around 70 countries where homosexuality is criminalized and the Trump administration is putting the full force of the U.S. government behind an effort to change the laws within those sovereign nations. The catalyst for this was the recent execution by hanging of a young gay man in Iran. It’s one thing to go after America’s top geopolitical foes, but how will allies like Saudi Arabia react, where homosexuality is punishable by death?
Leading the effort is U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration.
