IRS Commissioner: We Encourage Illegals to Steal SSNs and File Tax Returns

The IRS is protecting illegal aliens who are violating the law and committing identity theft by using someone else’s Social Security number when filing their tax returns. This may not seem like such a bad thing since they are actually filing a tax return, and that is the position that Koskinen is taking.

The IRS is struggling to ensure that illegal immigrants are able to illegally use Social Security numbers that are not theirs for legitimate purposes, the agency’s head told senators on Tuesday, without allowing the numbers to be used for “bad” reasons.

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen made the statement in response to a question from Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., during a session of the Senate Finance Committee about why the IRS appears to be collaborating with taxpayers who file tax returns using fraudulent information. Coats said that his staff had discovered the practice after looking into agency procedures.

“What we learned is that … the IRS continues to process tax returns with false W-2 information and issue refunds as if they were routine tax returns, and say that’s not really our job,” Coats said. “We also learned the IRS ignores notifications from the Social Security Administration that a name does not match a Social Security number, and you use your own system to determine whether a number is valid.”

Asked to explain those practices, Koskinen replied, “What happens in these situations is someone is using a Social Security number to get a job, but they’re filing their tax return with their [taxpayer identification number].” What that means, he said, is that “they are undocumented aliens … . They’re paying taxes. It’s in everybody’s interest to have them pay the taxes they owe.”

As long as the information is being used only to fraudulently obtain jobs, Koskinen said, rather than to claim false tax returns, the agency has an interest in helping them. “The question is whether the Social Security number they’re using to get the job has been stolen. It’s not the normal identity theft situation,” he said.

“In some cases, there may be a need for statutory authority [from Congress], because we are very sensitive to protecting taxpayer information on both sides,” he added.

Koskinen and the Obama administration were constantly seeking ways to help illegal aliens break the law. And it should be noted that tens of thousands of IRS employees file false returns each year and never face sanctions or a loss of their job, showing the bias and corrupt nature of the agency.

In the case of illegal aliens filing tax returns using a false or stolen Social Security number, Koskinen justifies it because he says he wants the money.

But among illegal aliens, there is a very high incidence of low-income earners and high household family members. As many people know, it is possible under the Earned Income Tax Credit program to actually get more money back than was paid into the system if income is low enough and deductions (or dependents) are high enough. So the filing of income taxes does not necessarily mean payments into the government, and it could very well represent a de facto welfare payment out to these illegals. And that could be something that the IRS and the leftists not only sanction, but intentionally overlook.

The United States and corrupt organizations like the IRS, where the government picks winners and losers and decides which laws it wants to enforce against whom, and which they choose to ignore, has become a banana republic run by dictators and thugs, not by the people. The citizens of this country need to clean house, eliminate the IRS and other corrupt organizations, and make sure presidents from either party remember that government is for the people, not the other way around. I will not hold my breath until that happens.
