Iran Accuses US of Breaking Nuke Deal, Launches War Drills

What we have learned about the negotiations conducted by the Obama administration with Iran has been disturbing.  In once case, there is the revelation that that Obama transferred $1.7 billion to Iran in cash through Swiss banks to secure the release of American hostages. Adding to concern is the letter sent to Congressional leaders by 190 retired generals and admirals criticizing the Iran nuclear deal, and suggesting that it does nothing to reduce the ability of Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Now, as Iran conducts war drills, it accuses the US of breaking the nuclear deal, and makes additional demands.  Will Obama cave again?

Iran on Monday launched a series of war drills that included the use of American-made planes amid accusations by top officials that the United States is violating last summer’s comprehensive nuclear agreement, according to regional experts and Persian-language media reports.

Those “American-made planes” consist largely of F-4 and F-5 fighter jets, so they don’t represent the greatest of risks to the latest US fighters they might face, even though the armaments carried are much more modern.  That said, Iranian pronouncements accompanying these exercises are cause for concern.  And in what is an ironic twist, the Iranians are accusing the US of breaking the nuclear agreement:

The three-day air drills, now entering their second day, come as senior Iranian officials repeatedly accuse the United States of violating its side of the nuclear agreement.

For its part, Iran is unrepentant in its support for terrorist groups, and has adopted its typical “in your face” approach to creating propaganda directed at the US.

Iranian officials maintain that they will continue to fund global terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas, which are committed to Israel’s destruction, despite objections from the United States.

“When they ask the foreign minister of America why do you violate your commitments under the JCPOA, they say we have acted on our commitments and even gone further than they require. However, Iranians must do certain things, such as ceasing their support for terrorists and halting their missile activities,” Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani, the head of Iran’s Judiciary, was quoted as saying in Farsi-language reports on Monday.

“However, what they mean by terrorists are resistance groups like Hezbollah of Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine, which have stood against the violations and crimes of the Zionist regime,” Larijani said.

The Obama Administration is dealing with all of this in typical fashion.

The Obama administration also has moved forward with new sanctions relief that is expected to provide Iran with even more financial resources, a large portion of which are suspected by Congress of being allocated to the country’s military and terrorist organizations.

The story goes on to report on an Iranian announcement that it remains committed to removing the US presence from the region, presumably by hostile methods if necessary.

And what can we expect from the Obama Administration in its waning days with regard to Iran?  More concessions, no doubt.  Mr. Obama, who’s side are you on?
