Cop Challenges Owner of ‘No Cops’ Gym to Charity Boxing Match

A gym in Atlanta, GA posted a sign on their door telling members of law enforcement that they were not welcome to work out at the facility.

The sign read, simply, “No f*cking cops.”

A shocking and vulgar sign about police officers has been posted in front of a local business in Atlanta. The sign could be seen from the street with the curse word blurred out, but the message is clear: It says no cops allowed.

An 11Alive News viewer emailed us the photo of the sign. He says he’s a military veteran and was offended when he saw it outside the East Atlanta Village gym.

“It was really just that the vulgarity in that sign, and that seems to bring it out for people,” said Jim Chambers, owner of the EAV Barbell Club on Flat Shoals Avenue in the city’s East Atlanta Village neighborhood.

When asked, the gym owner refused to apologize for the sign and even added military service men and women to the list of banned patrons:

A self-described political activist, Chambers said the policy is a political statement and to help protect other activists who use the gym as a meeting spot. According to Chambers, users of the gym are usually minorities who would not feel comfortable with police officers inside.

Chambers said he plans to put the sign back up with no foul language.

Inside, the gym sports a Soviet Union flag.

The Atlanta Police Department told 11Alive News if an emergency were to happen they would respond because the “sign would not stop us from lawfully doing our job.”

Chambers says the gym will never need help from police.

Despite Chambers’ insistence that his gym would never need law enforcement aid, police officers are unlikely to obey the signs should an emergency occur. That’s because, unlike Chambers, they actually respect their fellow community members — even if the feeling isn’t mutual.
