Bakery Owners Stand Their Ground, Refuse To Pay Damages of $135,000

According to Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian,  sexual orientation discrimination has more value that religious discrimination, and on a sliding scale is valued at $135,000 is emotional damages.

The Kleins, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, could not, due to religious conviction bake a gay wedding cake.

Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer, could not, due to selfish conviction, take their business elsewhere and decided to sue instead because their feelings were hurt.

The Kleins have filed an appeal of the ruling and are defying the order to pay. They’re claiming financial hardship although crowdfunding efforts have brought in over $500,000 on their behalf.

State of Oregon officials are seeking a lien on the Kleins’ property and other assets.
